ABOUT ME

I love writing children’s stories.  I’ve never wanted to write for adults.  My favourite part is planning the stories and working out all the characters.  I actually find writing the first draft is the hardest part but once that’s done I enjoy re-writing it, adding bits, cutting parts and generally getting the story into shape - and the right length.

I’ve written for as long as I can remember.  When I was still at school I was always writing poems and stories.  I even started my own newspaper once – but it never got any further than two issues!  I also wrote a play that was performed by my Girl Guide Company.

My first published work was short stories for young children which were published in various magazines and newspapers.  I then went on to write books.  I mostly write about animals and in particular, the relationship between children and animals.  I have also written books based on Bible stories and I write a mothly page for my Parish Magazine.

I love all animals and the natural world in general.  At the moment I have two eccentric cats.  They were born on a rubbish dump and lived in the wild with their mother for the first three months of their lives.  Then they were rescued by the Cats Protection League and put up for adoption.  When my family took them on they were just under six months old and had never been in a house before.  As you can imagine they were very nervous and it took a long while to gain their trust.  Today they are still timid but very loving.  They are both black.  One has a white flash on his front and is called Jet.  The other is all black and called Jack.  They are always up to something amusing and make us laugh a lot.

I have also adopted a donkey called Timothy at the Donkey Sanctuary in Devon.  He is one of the donkeys that give riding therapy for children with disabilities.  This year my daughter adopted me a tiger from Chessington Zoo – he is very handsome.  And no, he doesn’t live with me – he stays at the zoo!!

When I'm not writing I'm out metal detecting with my grandson.  We've made some interesting finds - including a Roman Buckle!  See picture below left.
